General Grants
Round 2 (2008/09) closes 9 April 2009
Round 1 (2009/10) closes 17 September 2009
What is the General Grants program? General
Grants are for larger projects with budgets over $5,000 (exc GST) and
are allocated by the Foundations Grants Subgroup.
General Grants combine what were previously called Project Grants and
Legal Information Grants.
Although not a requirement, General Grants tend to support larger scale
projects that may take place over an extended period.
General Grants will only be awarded for projects that fall with the
Foundation’s statutory objects
and comply with the Foundation’s
guiding principles.
How much can I apply for? There is no formal
cap on the amount for a General Grant. A budget must be included with
all grant applications and this should accurately reflect the cost of
implementing your project.
If the budget for your project is $5,000 (exc GST) or less you should
apply for a Small Grant instead of a
General Grant.
Who can apply? The Foundation accepts applications
from most organisations. However, the Foundation only accepts applications
from individuals in exceptional circumstances.
When can I apply? General Grants are considered
in two competitive grant rounds each year. The 2008 closing dates are:
17 September
How do I apply? We recommend that you approach
your grant application in the following manner:
- Contact the Grants Manager tel 9604 8115
to discuss your project. This is not compulsory but we highly recommend
that you do this.
- Check that your project meets the threshold requirements:
· does your project fall within the
statutory objects?
· is your project eligible under the
guiding principles?
- Download the General Grant application form 220kb
PDF or 208kb
DOC. You need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view PDF files or Microsoft
Word to view DOC files.
The Grants Manager tel 9604 8115 can help
you with filling in the form if you need assistance.
What will the Foundation consider when assessing
my application? In determining whether to support a project grant
consideration will be given to the merits of the application and how
the project meets the statutory objects
of the Foundation and its guiding
principles. Referees and letters of support from third parties will
also be considered.
Should I speak to the Grants Manager before I apply?
Yes, we recommend that with all grant applications you speak to our
Grants Manager tel 9604 8115 before applying
to assist you with submitting the best application possible.
