The project worker will produce legal research papers and submissions pertaining to local animal law reform. The project worker will oversee the work of volunteers in relation to this work and provide community legal education. The employment of the project worker will allow Lawyers for Animals to contribute far more significantly towards urgently needed reform. $11,775.00 Monash University – Centre of Forensic Behavioural ScienceIncreasing Juror’s Comprehension of the Jury Charge: Judicial Interviews Research and experience of judges shows that jurors have considerable difficulty understanding the legal instructions provided by the judge in the trial. This project, which involves interviews with judges about their charge practices, is one in a program of research designed to help judges enhance their communication with jurors to increase their understanding of the law. The findings will be presented on the web, in a newsletter, journal article and a report. $12,917.00 Victorian Council of Social Service (VCOSS)Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities 2006 (Vic) needs analysis The purpose of this grant is to allow VCOSS to undertake a needs analysis and audit to develop a strategy for education on the Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities 2006 (Vic). $12,006.54 County Court of VictoriaCourt Information Office Pilot and Feasibility Study Employment of project officer to conduct a 12 month study into the feasibility of the establishment of a court information office in the County Court and potentially across all Victorian jurisdictions. The feasibility study and pilot would form the basis of an application to the Department of Justice for ongoing funding of a court information office. $50,000.00 Child Wise LtdLooking After The Children: Whose Duty to Care? To revise and expand the existing publication ‘Choose with care’ to assist organisations to understand their legal obligations in relation to children and young people in their care. The publication will be provided by Child Wise at parent/caregiver information sessions and available on their website. $24,700.00 Women’s Legal Service Victoria (WLSV)WLSV e-learning law project Funding was provided to undertake a feasibility study into the possibility of developing on-line learning tools for the service to undertake CLE training. $12,090.00 PILCH Homeless Persons’ Legal ClinicThe Homelessness Law and Advocacy Resource Manual As project to develop and publish an on-line legal education tool; the homelessness law and advocacy resource manual.
